So here we are… 2021. Still sheltering in place. Still masking up. But hopeful that this is the year of returning to some state of normalcy. In the meantime, Valentine’s Day apparently hasn’t been cancelled.

Truth be told, I’ve never been partial to this day, even though I never turn down dark chocolate. But it is an excuse to persuade my better half to re-watch sappy rom-coms, and indulge in a caloric splurge, so whether you’re celebrating the day with your partner, your galentine, or going solo, here’s some ideas for spreading the love.

1. Get a Oldies-but-Goodies Movie Marathon going

I know, I know, dating myself here, please don’t judge.

When Harry Met Sally
You’ve Got Mail (Remember AOL?!)
My Best Friend’s Wedding
50 First Dates
500 Days of Summer
Dirty Dancing

These two are not so old, but worth a watch in my opinion.

Always Be My Maybe
The Big Sick

2. Enjoy indoor cozies with treats

If you’ve got a functioning indoor fireplace, lucky you. If not, I suggest the Flikr Fireplace, paired with a marshmallow making kit from Squish… heavenly. This idea got a 6-star rating from our kids.

3. Revel in unexpected love stories

All of these can be done in the comfort of your bed.
• Listen: Modern Love
• Read: Tiny Love Stories. These tiny 100-word stories sure pack a punch.
• Scroll: Humans of New York. Aren’t most human stories about love anyways?

4. Create an epic indoor picnic

Picnicking in the park is always a good idea, unless you’re in a pandemic, in which case, please mask up. Or spread some blankets indoors and cozy up in your PJs with a spread. Whoever said picnics had to be outdoors?

5. Pick a new recipe from a country you’ve always wanted to visit, and cook together.

Or get an extra-special takeout dinner, set up some candles and combine with ideas #4.

6. Send flowers

Doh, but of course. I couldn’t sign off without the classic… spread love by sending flowers. I recently received a surprise bouquet from Farmgirl Flowers  and seeing those flowers every morning made my week.

It’s worth saying that you don’t have to wait till the 14th to act on these ideas.

Spread little joys everyday.
