Meet Solvang: Vibrant & Eclectic

THE BACKSTORY

Often dubbed as the “Danish Capital of America” Solvang thoroughly charmed us with its vibrant, eclectic vibes. Despite the high volume of tourists it welcomes, it still manages to maintain its "traditional village" factor, in large part to its Scandinavian architecture, festivals and foods. True to its roots, it was hard to miss the windmills in this Danish village, which became the inspiration for our collection.

 

OUR DESIGN PROCESS

Windmills in motion are quite a sight to behold. We took our visual cues from that and began sketching.

Over time, the forms became more abstract as we began to play with these shapes. Combining them, layering them, and reducing them to their simplest form... we just let our inks flow and had fun with the process.

We didn't just use inks. There was lots of painting and paper-cutting involved as well. In the exploratory process, anything goes. I refrain from editing at this stage, instead just focusing on accumulating a library of assets.

The final result? A playful, vibrant collection called Solvang. We can't wait to show you: ... launching on January 13. Save the date!
