What is a staycation, you might ask? We’ve probably all done it before! It’s just a new term to describe participating in leisure activities in your own city or close by, in a way that doesn’t require overnight accommodations. In other terms, if you don’t have the opportunity to take days off or don’t have the budget for a big summer vacation trip, you can still enjoy summer exactly where you are and still feel that you are taking full advantage of the warmer weather!

Beachfront Run for a good cause

Do you like running? Jogging? Or even just walking for a good cause? Well, summer is THE time to take that love to the next level. There are plenty of running events that you can participate in with your friends and family. If you live next to the beach, then you know how amazing it feels to run by the shore with that amazing view and the smell of salt water. So, how about running a beachfront 5k? Don’t forget the sunscreen!

Try a new skill, and be spontaneous!

Take that class you always wanted to. How about learning how to paint, cook, or brew your own beer? After a couple of weeks of learning, invite your friends over to showcase your creations. You never know, this could kick-start a new lifelong passion.

Star-Gazing Picnic time

This tip is not only for the astronomy geeks. Everyone should be aware that 2022 is full of astronomical events. Supermoons, meteor showers, and alignment of planets. So what a great opportunity for a special stargazing picnic with family and friends! Look out for August 13th, which is The Perseids (meteor shower), and watch the shooting stars. Don’t forget to make a wish! Need ideas for picnic dishes? Check out our “Easy Recipes for the Perfect Summer Picnic” post.

Start your own home garden

What about bringing some greenery to the concrete jungle? Spending time outside has been proven to bring many benefits to your health, such as reducing stress and anxiety. However, not all of us have the luxury of being close to a hiking trail or national park, so bring some nature into your life by growing your own plants.

Visit an Amusement Park

In my opinion, nothing feels more like summer than going with your friends to an amusement park. If you don’t have one close by, you should also look up county fairs! They also have rides, games, expositions, and local food! But, let’s take it up a notch. How about a friendly competition of who can find the most interesting carnival food? Or look up tips and tricks on how to beat the carnival games and see who can win the most prizes.

Volunteer for a cause you love

Volunteering is a great way to help your community, make new friends, and get to know more about your town. Non-profits are always looking for people that want to help their community become a better place. You could volunteer for a State Park, homeless shelter, hospital, animal shelter, music festival, museum, theaters… the possibilities are endless! There are opportunities that give you perks such as free tickets, attending special events, free food, etc… Don’t miss out!

Just because you can’t travel far doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the warm weather where you are. Go outside and get some fresh air. Summer won’t be here forever!
