Woman with MAIKA Dots Navy Carryall Tote

The "Celebrating Women" series continues this month, featuring the amazing women in our community. Joanie Sears is a wonderful teacher at Wildwood Elementary School in Piedmont, California. Coincidentally, she is also our daughter's 1st grade teacher and we couldn't adore her more!

What is your superpower?
My superpower is teaching! I love supporting kids as they learn how to read.

What is your favorite book/ podcast/ film?
My favorite podcast is This American Life. I love to get lost in a good story.
What does your perfect day look like?
My perfect day is when my family and I have no plans and can start out in bed. Coffee, neighborhood walk, friends and families swing by with snacks, drinks and hanging out in our backyard.
Who is your inspiration/ role model? Why?
My grandma was my role model. She lived a beautiful life that had many hardships. Despite those incredible hardships, her spirit believed in the goodness of people. She loved to laugh, tell stories and her joy was contagious.
What would you tell your 20-year-old self?
You are one lucky girl. Clothed in the love of your friends and family.
What has been your greatest adventure?
Being married to my husband.
What is the best gift you've ever received?
Becoming a mother to my children.
What words do you live by?
When given the choice between being right and being kind, choose kindness.
