Today is the day! I’m so excited to announce our partnership with Make-A-Wish with the launch of the "Maika's Wish" collection! This is truly a labor of love for us, and we’ve been hard at work for the past few months, bringing this collection to life.
With every purchase, we’ll be making a donation to Make-A-Wish.
This collection was inspired by our daughter, Maika and her wish. As some of you may know, Maika was diagnosed with aplastic anemia in 2019. During her treatment, Maika was connected to Make-A-Wish. Her wish was to create a giant mural with an inspiring quote so that, in her words, “… anyone walking by would be lifted by it.”
With the help of Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area, a beautiful mural was created over the span of a weekend by enlisting the help of friends and family. Hueman was the head artist who scaled Maika’s design, and a local developer, Riaz Capital, donated the wall space by the Z hotel in Jack London Square, Oakland. Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf was the guest of honor at the unveiling of “Maika’s Mural”, highlighting the impact of public art in building community and spreading joy.
But what really blows me away, is how this story of the mural took on a life of its own and inspired others to re-create it, from a billboard in Portland, to being included as part of the art curriculum at an elementary school.
Ultimately, her wish inspired the design of “Maika’s Wish” Collection which features a variety of reusable everyday accessories. From our bestselling lunch+pie totes, nifty mini cube key rings, to reusable water-bottles and art prints, we hope these products will bring joy to others, just as it did for Maika.
Make-A-Wish was there for us during the biggest fight of Maika’s life, so I couldn’t be more thrilled to partner with them and honor Maika’s story through this collaboration.
